PROSPECT, EAST PORTLAND:

AFTER CRASHING to the turf on February 10, 2024, during a walk at Anchovy Gardens in East Portland, where she broke her ankle in two places, Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) candidate Rosemarie Lindo, reportedly, is recovering well.

Lindo, a first-time candidate, reportedly underwent successful surgery on February 12, in which she had her leg pinned and strapped into a surgical shoe to maintain stability. She will be off her feet for the next six weeks to allow for healing.

According to Lindo, since her accident, she has been receiving phone calls from people from both sides of the political divide wishing her a speedy recovery and expressing their sympathy. She pointed out that such kind words and interest shown by the people speak volumes to the kind of relationship she shares with residents.

“At times I feel some discomfort, but I am really trying to cope with t he situation. Yes, I am somewhat handicapped, however, I have a mature and competent campaign team who are still able to make headway despite my inability to walk and conduct a house-to-house campaign,” Lindo commented.

“It is a rather unfortunate accident, but it has allowed me to reflect on my future, which points to offering my full support to assist with the development of the communities in the Prospect division so as to improve the lives of every resident. It is my calling to serve the people, and broken leg or not, I am here for the entire ride, and this incident will not affect my quest for leadership in no way,” she concluded.

Lindo will face off against incumbent Wayne McKenzie of the People’s National Party in the February 26 local government elections for the right to become councillor of the Prospect division in Port Antonio. There are 8,660 electors in the Prospect division. In the 2016 election, McKenzie won with 1,221 votes to the 894 polled by the JLP’s Richard Burke.
