David Wagga Hunt Foundation disburses $30M in scholarship to Calabar and KC

-

OVER THE past 15 years, the Washington-based David Wagga Hunt Foundation has disbursed some 46 scholarships valued at over $31M to students at Calabar High School and Kingston College.

This achievement was lauded by Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States Audrey Marks, as she addressed the Foundation’s tenth annual gala over the weekend at the National Education Association’s Atrium in Washington DC.

“I commend the Foundation for its unwavering commitment to its mission of providing scholarships to deserving students at Kingston College and Calabar,” Ambassador Marks said.

The ambassador noted that this year, the foundation increased its disbursement of scholarships by 50 per cent, where some 24 students at both institutions will receive scholarships amounting to $3.6 million.

She noted that the foundation assists students in Jamaica, as well as Jamaican students attending Howard University. This she says demonstrates the foundation’s dedication to supporting the educational journey of young Jamaicans at home and abroad.

She commended the foundation on achieving its target of US$ 20,000 for the night.

“The Government of Jamaica is proud to have the David Wagga Hunt Scholarship initiative as a partner in our shared vision of a brighter future for Jamaica,” Ambassador Marks said.

The ambassador also commended the two awardees: Dr. Henry Lowe and Lorne Donaldson, “whose remarkable contributions have not only advanced their fields but illuminated the way for future generations. Dr. Lowe’s innovations and service, alongside Mr. Donaldson’s commitment to women’s football, exemplifies the spirit of excellence and community.”

The David ‘ Wagga’ Hunt Scholarship, named after the late KC past student, football coach, and community pillar, embodies the essence of potential unleashed. It supports students who demonstrate academic excellence, active participation in extracurricular activities, and a need for financial assistance, ensuring that Hunt’s legacy of leadership and passion for sports continues to inspire.
