JPL: Molynes clip struggling Lime Hall
MOLYNES UNITED came from behind to beat struggling Lime Hall 2-1 in the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) at the Drewsland Mini-Stadium yesterday.
Cory Hylton fired Lime Hall in front 10 minutes into the second half, but Molynes responded with strikes from man-of-the-match Shamaro Dennis and a penalty from Jeremy Nelson to take all three points.
The result lifted Molynes two places up to 10th in the standings with 20 points, and coach Jermaine Thomas said their move up the table, ahead of Harbour View and Humble Lion, is a great physiological boost for the team.
“We needed this. We were languishing for a while near the bottom two so we wanted to get out for psychological reasons. So I think this (win) will allow us to play a little bit free and easier,” Thomas commented.
Molynes had the better of the first half and created a number of openings, but could not get one past Jaheim Williams in goal.
Lime Hall ended t he half strongly and thought they got a goal, but Devante Redman had used his hand to redirect the ball on goal.
Ten minutes after the interval, Hylton found the net to give the St Ann the lead.
Molynes thought they scored soon after, but Dennis’ effort was ruled off and a penalty awarded instead. Goalkeeper Williams denied Nelson from 12 yards to keep Lime Hall ahead.
However, Molynes found the equaliser when Dennis stabbed home at the far post in the 75th minute after a good build-up down the right.
Then five minutes i nto 10 minutes of stoppage time, a Lime Hall defender handled the ball in the area, and Nelson stepped up and made no mistake the second time around from the penalty spot.
“We had the better possession. We were dominating and created opportunities. So I wasn’t worried because I knew we had the quality to get back,” Thomas added.
Oshane Allen, Lime Hall manager, thought the officiating let them down.
“My team performed well. I just think the referee could have made some better decisions in the game and we could have seen a better result.”
Lime Hall remain at the foot of the table on seven points.
