Outright victories highlight round two of the JCA Senior Cup

FIVE TEAMS secured outright wins following round-two action in the Jamaica Cricket Associatio­n (JCA) Senior Cup competitio­n which ended over the weekend.

At Chedwin Park, home side St Catherine CC secured an impressive innings-and-115-run win over a youthful Manchester side, thanks largely to a majestic century from national opener Carlos Brown and a 10- and eightwicke­t match haul from national spinners Ramaal Lewis and Jeavor Royal respective­ly.

Royal started the demolition job with the ball, bagging five wickets for 29 runs in dismissing Manchester for 100 in their first innings, with Lewis supporting with three wickets for just one run.

Brown then hit an even hundred off 158 balls with 12 fours and a six as St Catherine CC piled up 372 for six declared. Oraine Williams chipped in with 87 and national all-rounder Peat Salmon scored 61.

Matthew Morgan bagged four for 71 for Manchester, who were dismissed for 157 in their second innings with Lewis picking up seven for 52, while Royal ended with three for 38.

Elsewhere, St Ann also secured a big innings-and-95-run win over Westmorlan­d, who were asked to take first strike and posted 74 all out with Orlando Royes, taking five for 17.

Renaldo Ingram then hit 88 and Sashane Anderson, 70, to guide St Ann to 243 for four declared. Westmorlan­d were then blown away for a second time for 74 with Christophe­r Lamont taking three for 11.

St Elizabeth got the better of Hanover by eight wickets. Hanover first made 132 all out with Lennox Simpson bagging five for 38. St Bess replied with 282 for eight declared with Odane Binns getting 62 and Tyriek Bryan scoring 51. Andre McCarthy then bagged seven for 32 to dismiss Hanover for 212, despite 139 from Javian Stora.

St Elizabeth then got to 64 for two to secure the win.

Trelawny also recorded an outright win over St James, who first made 188 all out with Hodwayne Davis top-scoring with 62 against five for 46 from Javed Harmer.

Trelawny could only manage to get 181 all out in reply, despite 91 from Omar Williams. Linton Buchanan bagged six wickets for 41 to do the damage. Osbourne Palmer then took five for 27 to bowl out St James for 108 with Jordan Holness making 63. Trelawny reached 113 for five to secure the win with Oral Rankin scoring 45 not out.

In other games, Portland secured first-innings points over Police, and so too Kensington over St Thomas with national captain Jermaine Blackwood scoring an unbeaten 139 in St Thomas’ second innings and schoolboy Tamarie Redwood grabbing 11 wickets in the match.

The JDF defeated Kingston and St Andrew by 28 runs, while Kingston got points over Melbourne with national player Andre McCarthy scoring 109 in Melbourne’s second innings.
