Class Two girls’ 100m hurdles will be hot

- Raymond Graham/ Gleaner Writer

FANS SHOULD expect a cracker in the Class Two girls’ 100-metre hurdles at the ISSA-GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Athletics Championships (Champs), as this will definitely be the most competitive event at the championships in the female events.

It will be a four-way battle as Wolmer’s Girls School’s Tiana Marshall, Hydel High’s Jody-Ann Daley and the St Jago High pair of Bryana Davidson and Briana Campbell are ready to set the track ‘on fire’ in an event which can go the way of any of the top contenders.

All four girls have been in blazing form all season. Campbell leads the way on time. She clocked a personal best of 13.14 seconds in placing second to St Elizabeth Technical’s Class One athlete Habiba Harris in the Under-20 girls event at the recent Carifta Trials.

Marshall ran a personal best of 13.20 when winning at the Corporate Area Development Meet, while Daley was an easy winner at the Youngster Goldsmith meet in 13.46.

Daley is the defending champion and will definitely be aiming to successfully defend her title. With a lot at stake for defending girls’ champions Hydel, she could be even more motivated and step up to the next level and make it back-to-back wins.

Marshall won the Class Three 80m hurdles at Champs last year and has the quality to start her Class Two career on a successful note. She got the better of Davidson and Daley at the Youngster Goldsmith Classics where she finished a close second to Campbell. She will be hoping to turn the tables on Campbell at Champs.

This event is definitely worth going miles to see, as it could come down to the photo finish camera to decide all four places in what is expected to be a cliffhanger.

The record for the event is 12.71 seconds and was set in 2022 by Hydel’s Kerrica Hill.
