J. WRAY & Nephew Limited has partnered with Project STAR by committing $10 million in cash and in kind to support the project over the next four years.

Both organisations formalised the agreement at a recent signing ceremony held at J. Wray & Nephew Limited offices on Dominica Drive in Kingston.

Jean Philippe Beyer, managing director at J. Wray & Nephew Limited, said the company prides itself on being a part of the solution to many of the issues that Jamaicans are facing and, in many ways, offers its support to facilitate a swift and effective response to those challenges.

“Through this latest partnership with Project STAR, we will play our part in addressing and transforming a number of violence-prone communities across the island,” he said. Beyer also expressed his hope that greater opportunities will be created for underserved communities to achieve economic growth, security, and an improved standard of living.

“We believe that partnership and collaboration are necessary to stem the onslaught of violence in our society, starting with the communities that are most at risk. We also believe that this programme gets to the heart of the problems and addresses them through economic opportunities, job creation, and communitybuilding activities ,” he stated.

Saffrey Brown, project director at STAR, commended J. Wray & Nephew for coming on board, noting in a release that the support signals confidence in the programmes of Project STAR and a belief in its mantra, ‘Everybody Fahwud’, and that together we can achieve.

“J. Wray & Nephew has become a champion of our cause, demonstrating a profound belief in the transformative power of our project. Their partnership goes beyond monetary contributions; it reflects a shared vision for a brighter future and a steadfast dedication to making that vision a reality,” she said.

“Their i nvestment i n our project not only empowers us to achieve our goals but also inspires confidence and encourages others to join us in our endeavours,” she said.

Project STAR is a five-year social and economic transformation project that targets underresourced, underserved communities experiencing high levels of crime or violence. Through a comprehensive consultation process, communities assist in determining their own needs, which are further supported by extensive data and analysis.
