THE ADAGE ‘ Some people dream of success ... while others wake up and work hard for it’ is endorsed by the track record of the late David Addison. In 1963, Addison bought the company from his former employers – National Cash Register Company – and renamed it Office Equipment Sales & Service Ltd. The core products back t hen were typewriters and cash registers and, no stranger to the business community, Addison had contracts with most of the schools and offices in western Jamaica. Marcia Addison recalls how in the early days, the vehicle used was a station wagon that had the sides branded to advertise the company.

Addison was high on customer service and would constantly tell his employees “never tell a customer we don’t have it. If we don’t have it, we’ ll get it.” This tradition of excellent customer service was passed on to his son Christopher, the current managing director/ CEO. The business had its challenges including a fire in 2006, which gutted the building and destroyed most of the contents, but the resilience of its proprietors overcame the challenge and they are now in their new home at 37 Church Street, Montego Bay.

Over the years, the company has evolved to meet the changes in a dynamic market and 60 years later, the merchandise includes computers, printers, cash registers, and photocopiers, while they distribute office chairs, desks, cabinets and safes, to name a few.

The staff is constantly being upgraded in computer repairs and other relevant fields to ensure their viability and competence and so live up to the company’s motto ‘We service what we sell’.
