Scientists among Musgrave Medal awardees for 2024
DR CONRAD Douglas, applied scientist and leader in the field of science, technology and innovation in industry and the environment, is among this year’s list of Musgrave Medal awardees.
Other awardees include Vivian Crawford, leadership (cultural management); Prof Marcia Roye, science; Prof Carolyn Cooper, literature; Dr Lenora Antoinette Stines, arts (dance); and Barbara Blake-Hannah, literature.
Also on the list are George ‘ Fully’ Fullwood, arts (music); Carlton ‘Santa’ Davis, arts (music); Merline Bardowell, science; and Dr Sharma Taylor, literature.
This year’s Musgrave Medals award ceremony is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 27.
Now in its 126 th year, the awards continue to recognise and honour outstanding contributions to literature, science, and art in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean region.
“Named after Sir Anthony Musgrave, the Musgrave Medals have been a hallmark of excellence since their inception in 1889. Each year, the Institute of Jamaica proudly bestows these medals upon individuals who have demonstrated exceptional talent, innovation, and dedication in their respective fields,” noted a release from the Institute of Jamaica.
The ceremony will be held at the Philip Sherlock Centre for the Creative Arts at The University of the West Indies, Mona, commencing at 7 p.m. Distinguished guests, including recipient soft he Musgrave Medals, esteemed members of the cultural and academic communities, and Government officials, will gather to celebrate the honourees.
“This year’s Musgrave Medals Award Ceremony continues our tradition of honouring excellence and innovation in Jamaica. We are thrilled to recognise the remarkable achievements of individuals who have made significant contributions to literature, science, and art, enriching our cultural landscape and inspiring future generations,” noted Leslie Howard, executive director at the Institute of Jamaica, in the release.
The award ceremony will feature presentations of the gold, silver, and bronze medals to the recipients, as well as performances and displays highlighting the diversity and creativity of Jamaica’s cultural heritage.
