Wanted: Entries for IOJ Earth Day Competition
THE NATURAL History Museum of Jamaica, a division of the Institute of Jamaica (IOJ), has announced the launch of the Earth Day 2024 Competition under the theme ‘Planet vs Plastic’.
The competition intends to inspire and engage youth in advocating for the preservation of natural resources.
Scheduled to coincide with Earth Day on April 22, the competition invites children and youth aged 12-19 years, as well as students in grades seven to 13 years, to participate in various creative categories highlighting the importance of combating plastic pollution.
The competition features three distinct categories, namely:
• Poetry (Ages 12-14): Participants in this category are encouraged to submit original poems under the theme ‘Plastic Madness’. Through the power of words, contestants can express their views and concerns regarding plastic pollution.
• Poster (Ages 15-19): Under the theme ‘Planet vs Plastic: Which World Would You Rather?’. This category invites participants to create visually compelling posters that depict the contrast between a world without plastic pollution and one consumed by it; and
• Photography (Ages 15-19): Titled ‘Turning Tides On Plastic’. Participants are tasked with capturing impactful images that showcase efforts to combat plastic pollution and restore the natural beauty of our environment.
In addition, there will be an open video category for all ages, where individuals can submit a one-minute video clip under the theme ‘Be The Solution To Plastic Pollution’.
Winners of the 15-19 year old categories will also have the opportunity to compete for the prestigious IOJ Youth Ambassador Programme.
The deadline for submission of entries is tomorrow, Friday, March 15. Following the judging process, winners will be announced at the annual Earth Day Competition Awards Ceremony.
