Mayberry dives back into sponsorshi­p of all-island swim meet

THE NATIONAL Aquatics Centre, National Stadium, is set to come alive today with the strokes and spirited splashes of Jamaica’s finest young swimmers as they compete in the two-day Mayberry All Island Swim Meet.

Joseph Reynolds, meet director, world aquatic referee, world aquatic starter, and head of the School Swimming Committee for the Aquatic Sports Associatio­n of Jamaica, says the championsh­ip is significan­t as it helps to shape the future of Jamaican swimming.

“These meets serve as pivotal moments in the journey of our future national swimmers,” Reynolds emphasised. “They provide a platform for emerging talents to shine, showcasing their skills and potential. We eagerly anticipate witnessing the growth and developmen­t of Jamaica’s swimming stars,” he shared.

The Mayberry meet stands as a pinnacle event in Jamaica’s swimming calendar, drawing participan­ts from schools across the island. Today’s opening day of the meet will feature the high schools, boasting 28 schools and 529 athletes, while the primary and prep division will see participat­ion from 38 schools with 551 athletes, totalling 1,000 competitor­s.

Expressing appreciati­on for the sponsors’ invaluable support, Reynolds remarked, “We extend our sincere gratitude to our sponsors, whose contributi­ons are integral to the success of this esteemed event. Alongside Mayberry Investment­s Limited (MIL), we acknowledg­e the generous support of Couple’s Resort, Wisynco, Max Group, Supreme Ventures Limited, First Rock Real Estate, Ultra Financier, Iron Rock, Stewart’s Auto, and Flow,” he said.

Stephanie Harrison, vicepresid­ent of marketing at MIL, echoed Reynolds’ sentiments, highlighti­ng the event ’s embodiment of community, sportsmans­hip, and excellence. Her company has been sponsoring the event for 26 years.

“As the waves of enthusiasm crash against the poolside, we are reminded of the transforma­tive power of sports,” Harrison stated. “We are honoured to stand alongside our fellow sponsors in championin­g this spectacle. This year’s championsh­ip promises to be an exhilarati­ng showcase of talent and determinat­ion, with future national swimmers honing their skills and vying for top honours.
