The following events took place on March 15 in the years identified:

1970: Dr Edward Braithwait­e, poet and lecturer in history at the University of the West Indies, opened an exhibition of paintings by Guyanese artist Aubrey Williams at the John Peartree Gallery. Speaking of the artist, Dr Braithwait­e said that Aubrey Williams can be best described as a highly primordial artist but yet manage to give his art a modern look in a primitive form. Each painting done by the artist, he said, was a variation and deals with a central theme. He also said that Williams gave his work a unity and centrality which was rare. (See related photo below)

1973: An 11-member diplomatic mission from the People’s Republic of China headed by a Charge d’Affaire arrived in Jamaica to set up a Chinese Embassy, following the establishm­ent of diplomatic relations between China & Jamaica in November 1972. In an interview with The Gleaner, Charge d’Affaires, Mr. Lu Te Fang said: “We are very happy to come to this beautiful country. The people of both have traditiona­l friendship.”

1975: Governor General Florizel Glasspole declared open the 21-unit Cheshire Homes Village on Mona Rehabs lands, Elletson Flats. The project was completed at a cost of half-a-million dollars.

1975: Calabar High School recorded their first Sunlight Cup cricket victory for the season when they beat Trench Town Comprehens­ive at Bumber Hall. The victors batted first and made 137 runs all out. Trench Town replied with 103 all out and this was due to a solid knock of 53 from Donovan Stephenson.
