THEME

This Glen Owen Lecture will be held under the theme, ‘Issues and Challenges Facing Educational Institutions in Jamaica: The Way Forward in These Troubled Times’. The series is held each year to celebrate and honour the illustrious legacy of former principal, Glenville (Glen) Hamilton Owen, PC, OD, MLST, MBIM, FJIM, and acknowledge his invaluable contributions to The Mico University College, and, more broadly, to nation-building.

In 1959 Glen Owen became the first Miconian to be appointed as principal of the institution. In the same year, he was the recipient of the Mico Old Students Association (MOSA) Gold Medal award.

The lecture series also seeks to underscore and promote academic and professional excellence within the field of Education, a sector which is identified as critically important to national development.

In keeping with modern accessibility, the event will be accessible both locally and internationally via live streaming, allowing Miconians and other stakeholders to share this momentous occasion with a wider audience. This year’s lecture is sponsored by the TIP Friendly Society, a release to the media outlined.
