Seville shines in 200m at Velocity Fest
NATIONAL SPRINTER Oblique Seville stole the show in the men’s 200 metres at the Velocity Fest 14 meet held at the National Stadium last Saturday.
Fourth-place finisher i n the 100m at last year’s ‘ World Athletics outdoor Championships in Budapest, Seville raced to a personal best 20.17 seconds to top the event. Seville’s training partner at Racers Track Club, Zharnel Hughes of Great Britain, the bronze medallist in the 100m in Budapest, won his heat in 20.40 for second overall.
World Indoor Championships 60m bronze medallist, Ackeem Blake, representing Dynamic Speed Track Club, also won his heat in a personal best 20.45 to finish third overall. World Indoor 400m bronze medallist Rusheen McDonald, representing MVP Track Club, ended second behind Hughes in 20.59 for fourth overall.
Barbadian Sada Williams of MVP Track Club, the back-to-back World Championships 400m bronze medallist, continued her fine form this season in the women’s 200m. She won the event in 22.70 ahead of Ashley Williams of SprinTec who clocked a personal best 23.45 as Roneisha McGregor of UWI/Mona took third in 23.55.
World University Games 100m champion, Kadrian Goldson of SprinTec, also showed good form at the meet. Goldson sped to 10.24 seconds to top the field in the 100m. Javari Thomas, competing for Speed Dynamic, was second overall in 10.32 while Tyquendo Tracy of Swept Track Club ended third in 10.35.
Tia Clayton of MVP won the women’s 100m in a personal best 11.13. Shashalee Forbes of SprinTec was second in 11.16 while Remona Burchell, also of SprinTec, took third in 11.33.
World Championships representative Malik Kymani James won the 400m for Titans Track Club in clocking 45.54 seconds. Assinie Wilson of Dynamic Speed with 46.66 and Racers Track Club’s Jeremy Bembridge (47.23) ended second and third, respectively.
In field events, Traves Smikle of Reckless Control won the discus with a throw of 65.96m to get the better of training partner Fedrick Smikle who was second with 64.80m. Chad Wright of Legacy Track Club was third with 62.42m.
Loydricia Cameron of Reckless Control won the women’s shot put with 15.91m while Tissanna Hickling of Ricketts Performance took the long jump with 6.04m ahead of Serena Cole of MVP with 5.88m. Shawn D Thompson of SprinTec won the men’s long jump with 7.70m ahead of Tajay Gayle (7.64m) of MVP and Aubrey Allen of Legacy, 7.31m.
