IMAGINE HAVING gastronomic access to not one, not two but three of your favourite food brands, all under one roof. The grand opening of the Mother’s Café at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) in Kingston introduces the ultimate taste trifecta, merging beloved menu items from Mother’s Restaurant, Devon House Bakery and Pimentos.

Starting the week off on delicious notes, the highly anticipated launch held on location on Monday was so appetising in its delivery that it appealed to all of the senses. After attentively listening to keynote speakers, attendees were given the opportunity to have a taste of what the menu has to offer.

And there was an option for everyone. The delightful spread on display included a healthy yet scrumptious ‘pineapple-cran’ salad cup from Pimento’s. For the patty lovers, the options included chicken, barbecued pork and fish from Devon House Bakery. From M Catering, seafood lovers were invited to indulge in the smoked tuna wrap. Sweet chilli chicken bites had many salivating for more. Trenton fans were happy to partake in the jerk pork bites.

Food influencers never hesitated to capture these mouthwatering moments from start to finish. The sleek décor was a sight to behold, leaving the distinguished guests in awe as they mingled among familiar and unfamiliar faces. Hosted by the lovely Debbie Bissoon, she masterfully introduced one speaker after the other, to share a few words of the culinary initiative.

In his speech, Clement ‘Jimmy’ Lawrence, chairman of Mother’s Enterprise, shared, “Today, as we opened the door to our newest addition to the Mother’s family at the University Hospital of the West Indies. We’re doing much more than launching this store, we’re unveiling the dream. [It’s] a vision steeped in the vibrant essence of Jamaica.”

Expounding on the unique warmth and zest of local cuisine, Lawrence extended gratitude to UHWI for selecting the 100 per cent Jamaican-owned brand. It is a privilege and responsibility that he says the company does not take lightly.

Operating 24 hours of the day, the goal is to not only to supply nutritious and wholesome food for staff members, but to offer a sense of solace for patients and visitors who are seeking a safe place to rest their heads and nourish their bodies.

Acting chief executive officer of UHWI, Fitzgerald Mitchell, expressed delight, noting that he was happy that Mother’s accepted the offer given. “What you are seeing this evening is the result of hard work, tremendous dedication and transformation. For many of the members of staff who have to work 24 hours of day for seven days of the week, they needed an oasis like this. We are truly happy.” By the first day of opening, people were already lined up around the block, just to get a taste of the excitement in store,

According to Sheldon Seymour, managing director of Mother’s, the company is on a new journey. “As innovators of the cheese, full house and pork patty, Mother’s is a shifter and a changer; a brand that creates standards. The brands have so many culinary flavours so what we have done with the café is to bring out those flavours of Mother’s, Devon House Bakery and Pimento’s under one brand to experience in one space.”

It’s like the tagline says, you will receive ‘Love in every bite’, food infused the passion, flavour and healing energy.
