Ensure safety and security of university community

-

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I AM a student of a well-known university, and I am concerned about the safety and security on and around campus. Our society is facing violence, threats and instability. Impregnable security measures must be enforced to secure the well-being of students and faculty. Although our university aims for a safe space and positive environment for hosting creative minds and hard-working individuals, there have been incidents which emphasise the urgency for improved security protocols. With the ongoing incidents involving unwarranted trespassing and sexual harassment, prioritising the safety of everyone on campus is a must.

Updating the security infrastructure, deploying an effective training programme, and hiring more qualified security personnel are crucial to building a safer environment. Investing in modern surveillance technology, strategically placing security guards, improving communication channels, and giving both students and faculty to be educated about emergency procedures, can strengthen our defences and allow quick responses to any potential threats.

Considering the most recent occurrences, working diligently to attend to security matters is not only an administrative job, but also the commitment and cooperation of the university’s community. We all need to unite to promote innovative ways of prioritising the safety and welfare of all the members of our campus community, and safeguarding our university as a haven for learning, creativity, and personal growth.
