THE FAMILY of 25-year-old Sashay Burke, otherwise called Keena, of Alexandria, St Ann, has expressed appreciation to the public for the assistance provided towards her heart surgery.

Keena underwent successful life-saving surgery at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) last week after initially being diagnosed with two holes in her heart. However, during the surgery it was discovered that there were actually five holes in her heart.

“Despite the unexpected findings, the surgery went well, and Keena is now in the recovery phase,” Florel Fraser, who had organised a GoFundMe page to raise funds for medical expenses, told The Gleaner.

Following the launch of the GoFundMe page, The Gleaner published an article on February 19 soliciting support for the young woman, which was met with a positive response from readers.

“We are extremely delighted to share some positive news with all of you regarding Keena’s journey for life-saving heart surgery. Keena underwent a successful procedure last week, during which the doctors discovered a total of five holes in her heart; an additional three more that we were initially unaware of,” she posted on the page.

“This is a testament to the care and compassion from you all! You made it possible! We are incredibly grateful for the expertise and dedication of the medical team who performed the surgery, as well as for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from each and every one of you. Your contributions have made a truly remarkable, transformational, and tangible difference in Keena’s journey towards healing.”

Fraser said Keena would undergo follow-up tests and evaluations to monitor her progress closely.

“Your continued support, prayers, and positive thoughts during this critical time are deeply appreciated. Thank you for standing by Keena and being a source of strength and encouragement throughout her health journey. Your kindness and generosity have touched our hearts and made a significant impact on Keena’s life,” she added.
