Fun-filled and informative World Water Day Expo in St Mary

-

On March 22, the National Water Commission (NWC) and other stakeholders in the water sector made a massive splash at Marymount High School in St Mary for the World Water Day Expo.

With ‘Water and Youth’ being the theme for the World Water Day celebration, the students were the focus of the event.

Throughout the day, they visited the NWC booth which was a hit with its Spin Wheel and Photo Frame, as attendees were able to learn more about water while winning prizes. Several students also won prizes for participating in the World Water Day Expo video, poster, jingle and water harvesting competitions.

And they were attentive during speeches from Senator Matthew Samuda, Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation (MEGJC), and Dr Norman Dunn, the Member of Parliament for St Mary South Eastern. The children were also treated to a wealth of knowledge from MEGJC, who was leading the event, as well as other partners like the Water Resources Authority, Rural Water Supply Limited, Central Wastewater Treatment Company, National Irrigation Commission, Forestry Department, Jamaica Tourist Board, National Environment and Planning Agency and HEART/ NSTA Trust.

The fun-filled and informative day was brought to an end with an entertainment package from Kaka Highflames and Team Highflames.

With Kaka singing songs like ‘Flames Rock’, ‘Tun It Up’ and ‘Hayee Macarena’, the group excited the vibrant audience with their dance moves. Music and hosting duties were provided by Tedroy Gordon.
