Gunmen attack cop in Spanish

Apoliceman attached to the Flying Squad yesterday narrowly escaped death after he was attacked in Spanish Town, St Catherine, by gunmen who had just committed a robbery in Portmore.

The incident began to unfold just after 9 o’ clock when a group of gunmen robbed a Toyota Corolla car and other valuables from the occupants. The police were alerted and an allpoint bulletin issued.

The men were in the Spanish Town area when they apparently recognised the policeman who was on his way to work. They opened fire on the police and that triggered a gun battle between the policeman and the gunmen. Two of the gunmen were shot dead and a .357 Magnum revolver seized. The other man escaped in the community. The matter has been reported to the Independent Commission of Investigations.
