Man allegedly stones woman in self- defence

- CHRISTOPHER THOMAS

ASt James man, who admitted to throwing a stone that cut a woman on her arm, had his case set for mention on December 18 when he appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court recently.

Jeffery Johnson, of a Montego Bay address, pleaded guilty with explanation to unlawful wounding committed against Shakira Harvey. However, his plea was not accepted after he explained that he had acted in self- defence.

The prosecution’s allegations were not read out in court, but Johnson told presiding magistrate Carolyn Tai that, on November 3, Harvey had come to his house and attacked him.

“She ( Harvey) always comes to my house with my babymother to fight me off. My babymother always ‘ boosts’ her up to come fight me,” said Johnson.

“So why did you throw the stone at her, sir?” asked RM Tai.

“She caught up with me on Sunday ( November 3), and she had a bottle of acid to throw on me,” Johnson explained.

“This is a case that will have to be tried, because what you are saying is that you acted in selfdefence, and we will have to get Ms Harvey’s medical certificate,” RM Tai told the defendant. “We will mention this matter on December 18,” the magistrate added.
