Williamson Ja’s best central – Fitzgerald

Coach of Rivoli United, Calvert Fitzgerald, believes that the latest China Harbour Engineering Company ( CHEC) Star Baller for October, Raymond Williamson, is the best central midfielder playing locally.

The 26 year- old Rivoli United senior team player won the award, presented last Monday at the Red Stripe Premier League night fixture between Harbour View and Waterhouse, at Harbour View Mini- Stadium.

He received $ 30,000 and a keep- sake plaque. Williamson was rewarded for his defensive ability to break up plays, while maintaining a clean disciplinary record. Williamson, who was acquired by Fitzgerald for promoted Rivoli from Tivoli Gardens during the off season, has helped his new club to fifth position on 11 points in the 12team RSPL, two points behind leaders Montego Bay United, Cavalier and Humble Lion.

“I think he ( Williamson) is the best defensive player in the country. He is not only a ball winner, but one who can also start the attack for his team. He is a good passer of the ball,” Fitzgerald told STAR Sports.

“He has the ability to control the play. Those are the reasons that after the club won promotion to the national league, I sought and got him to come to Rivoli. He has been a tremendous player for us,” the veteran coach added.

Meanwhile, communications manager of sponsors CHEC, Jennifer Armond, lauded the initiative.

“It is indeed a pleasure to return with this incentive offered to players who display outstanding performances for the month. The goal is to encourage them to increase their standard of play, contributing to their overall team results, while remaining disciplined in their effort.”

The CHEC Star Baller of the month incentive and award was introduced last season, and Waterhouse national senior team striker Jermaine ‘ Tuffy’ Anderson was the first winner.
