Big bucks for Magnum Super League
J. Wray and Nephew will use Magnum as its title sponsor for the 2016/2017 KSAFA Super and Major League competitions. Last season, Wray and Nephew used Charley’s JB Rum as it title sponsor, but at Wednesday’s launch at the Wray and Nephew corporate office in New Kingston it was announced that Magnum will headline the sponsorship of this season’s competitions.
The leagues have been sponsored to the tune of $5,500,000, with associate sponsors Charles Chocolate pumping in $1,000,000; Avis Rent a Car $400,000 and Soccer Xpress $100,000, which means there is an increase of $300,000 from last term to a total of $7.60 million this season. Wray and Nephew are in the second year of the three-year sponsorship deal.
The Super League winners will take home $1,000,000, while Major League champions will walk away with $500,000. A contribution of $30,000 will made to each of the 28 clubs in both competitions, 12 in Super League and 16 in Major League, to offset expenses.
All clubs will receive gear with the Velle brand, with the Magnum logo on the front and sister brand Charley’s JB Rum on the shoulders.
The Super League will be divided into two zones of six each, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals. The Major League will also be divided into two groups, but of nine, with the top two also moving on to the last four. However, only the Super League will contest a midseason final.
KSAFA president, Ambassador Stewart Stephenson, said Wray and Nephew’s sponsorship has enhanced the image of the association, and he called on the clubs to maintain the high level of discipline set last season.
“Last season, there were no significant incidents of indiscipline. (This season) the emphasis is on quality football and the importance of impeccable discipline and respect,” he said.
