Tivoli edge Arnett at home

An inspired performance from former national player Jermaine ‘Teddy’ Johnson, who had a brilliant solo goal and an assist, carried Tivoli Gardens to a come-from-behind 3-2 win over arch-rivals Arnett Gardens in a hot-tempered Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) match at the Edward Seaga Sports Complex, yesterday.

Newton Sterling, who got both goals for the ‘Junglists, opened the scoring after just three minutes.

However, goals from Mitchily Waul (26th), Barrington Pryce (31st) put the host ahead before the break. Then 13 minutes after the interval Johnson added a third. Sterling grabbed another goal to cut the deficit to one 10 minutes from the end to make it a nervy finish for the home team.

The win lifted Tivoli one place to third in the table with 27 points, two behind UWI who slammed Portmore 4-1 and four adrift of leaders Montego Bay United who defeated MaverleyHughenden 1-0. Arnett stay sixth on 19 points.

With 20 minutes to go Johnson and Rohan Reid, who were very influential in midfield, were subbed and it swung the tide in Arnett’s favour, and when Sterling scrambled home his second to cut the deficit to one in the 79th minute, it made it a nervous finish for the host.

Despite great chances falling to Michealous Martin, Oneil Thompson and Anderson, Arnett failed to capitalise and fell to their third defeat in four games.

In other games, Boys’ Town edged Waterhouse 2-1 in the bottom-of-thetable clash, Humble Lion and Jamalco drew 0-0 in the Clarendon derby, while Reno and Harbour View also ended 0-0.
