Williams eyeing permanent senior spot
The Queen’s School standout Hasana Williams, while relishing the opportunity of travelling with the victorious Sunshine Girls, is hoping to use training with her senior compatriots to advance her budding career.
The 17-year-old player completed the tour of England, her first senior tour so far. Jamaica’s Sunshine Girls wrapped up a 2-1 Test series win over their English rivals who are ranked above them, at third.
“I feel happy about training with the seniors, but I am worrying because the training is very hard,” Williams said.
The Under-21 player, looking to step up to the senior level, will no doubt have to do a lot to compete and win a starting place and retain it in the team.
“Well I will have to be about proving myself on the court, I have to deliver the ball to the goal shooter, and [I will have to] play my own game,” she pointed out.
Williams, who says that she has played the sport she loves all her life, is hoping to win and continue excelling.
“At this level, I am aiming to be one of the young standouts, taking my time to deliver the ball, play a full game and get the results ... ,” she said.
The teen formerly attended St Patrick’s Primary and started playing netball in grade two. She then moved to The Queen’s School, representing them for five years.
She represented Waulgrovians netball club and the national Under-21 team.
According to the player, she has won a lot of titles, including an Under-16 title last year in Antigua.
“Our coach was asking us to defend our Under-16 title, and we did, so yes I can compete. I want to earn my spot, but I have to work extra hard to earn it,” she told STAR Sports.
