Jamalco banking on staying in top flight
Jamalco Football club’s coach, Rayon Johnson, is backing his charges to overcome their slump in form and stay in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) this year.
The Clarendon-based team’s debut season in the nation’s premier football competition started out a bright one.
However, a series of disappointing results near the end of first round saw them slip down the table.
They are currently ninth with 14 points from as many games, with four wins, two draws and eight losses.
“As coach, I think inexperience is what cost us in previous games but it’s just a matter of us going home and do what we have to do, and come away with the points,” Johnson explained.
“Right now, to remain in the league, we have the team to do it. We just have to work hard,” Johnson told STAR Sports in last week’s post game interview.
The team rebounded from three straight losses with a 1-0 win over the University of the West Indies FC at the UWI Mona Bowl.
“We just have to work,” he reiterated. “We know that we fall at some part in the season it’s just a matter for us to put the pieces together, and try and build on what we have now,” the coach added.
Johnson is hoping his team’s win against the UWI FC can help to turn their fortunes around.
“Yes I am satisfied; we have been playing some consistent football in terms of how we possess the ball, and so on. It’s just unfortunate that we weren’t scoring. We got a goal today and we came out with a clean sheet,” he added.
In their next game, Jamalco will play struggling Boys’ Town at home, at the Wembley Ground in Clarendon.
