- RACHID PARCHMENT STAR Writer

National men’s Under-17 football team coach Andrew Edwards says that Jamaica’s final World Cup Qualification group is the ‘Group of Death’.

Edwards was present at the official draw in Panama City on Tuesday night to see his young Reggae Boyz drawn in Group C along with Mexico — who are seeded, United States, and El Salvador.

“It’s certainly a very, very daunting task. It will make our passage to the FIFA World Cup very, very difficult, if we can be successful any at all. However, it is football and I believe that we have the capacity to develop our team suffi- ciently so to create a few surprises,” Edwards told STAR Sports as he said the group is a difficult one.

“It’s one in which we will have to perform above and beyond anything we have done so far to get out of the group,” Edwards says.

NOT FAVOURABLE

23, next year.

“We will be targeting them in a very determined and focused way to get a positive result and try to propel ourselves forward.”

The Jamaicans play El Salvador on April 26 and Mexico three days later.

The tournament will be played at Estadio Maracana and the Rommel Fernandez Stadium.

In the other groups drawn, hosts Panama, Honduras, Curaçao, and Haiti play in Group A. Group B is made up of Costa Rica, Canada, Cuba and Suriname.

The winner of each group will advance into the FIFA Under-17 World Cup to be played in India from October 6 to 28 next year.
