Jamaicans earn 19 medals in T&T swim competition

Jamaica, with one of the smallest contingents to the recent Amateur Swimming Association of Trinidad and Tobago Invitational Swimming Championships, mined a whopping 19 medals.

The event began on Thursday in Couva and ended on Saturday with Jamaica’s eight swimmers splashing their marks on the event, which featured over 35 teams.

There were gold medals for Jordane Payne in the Boys 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly, and 800m freestyle.

Zaneta Alvaranga copped three gold in the Girls 50m and 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly.

Alvaranga also earned silver medals in the 100m and 200m butterfly and 200m Individual Medley,

while Sage Sinclair took silver in the 800m freestyle and Karci Gibson silver in the 200m backstroke.

Kyle Sinclair took the 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, and 50m freestyle for boys.

Bronze went to Karci Gibson in the Girls 400m Individual Medley and 100m backstroke, while Alvranga took the 50m backstroke bronze.

Jordane Payne added the 100m freestyle and 50m butterfly for boys.

The Jamaican team manager, Georgia Sinclair, praised her charges’ brilliant performances, which, according to her, were a vast improvement over last year.

“To have moved from winning six medals last year to 19 medals is absolutely fantastic!” she said.

“The swimmers were focused and results-oriented. Every single member of the team achieved personal best times, and this augers well for Jamaica’s swimming as we enter the final stages of preparation for CARIFTA,” she added.
