A FUNNY THING HAPPENED TO ME THIS WEEK “

-

With the world bracing for the reality of a President Donald Trump, the continued rise of oil prices as oil-producing countries agree to cut output by about 1.8 million barrels a day, and as crime continues to rise in Jamaica, especially as it relates to the murder of women during domestic disputes, I can’t honestly say I am looking forward to 2017. But, it’s Christmas, a supposed time of joy and celebration. Never been a fan of Christmas, but I am going to go with the flow and not be a Grinch. It is in that spirit that I will share with you something funny that happened to me earlier this week. So I went to the bank, NCB, on Knutsford Boulevard in New Kingston, to encash a cheque. After the leaving the bank, I walked to John R Wong supermarket which is pretty much right behind the bank. It’s a two-minute walk. I go inside, bought a bottle of water and some coconut water and then exited and walked towards a spot where my car is supposed to be. I look and look, no car. After a few minutes of bewilderment, I approached a security guard in the parking lot and told him my car is not there and immediately arrived at the conclusion it had been stolen. The guard summoned his reported to the managers that her husband’s car had been stolen and I dialled 119.

While explaining to the police my predicament, my left hand reaches into my pocket and I felt the parking ticket I got when I parked inside the NCB parking lot across the street.

It was then that I realised that my car had not been stolen. My wife and I apologised to all concerned, and embarrassed, I made my way across the street to my car after giving the guards a ‘liquor money’ for wasting their time.

I was really pleased about their professionalism and understanding, but my wife said she cannot go back there to shop ever again.

Life can be a bitch when you are getting old. Merry Christmas, everybody! If you have had a similar experience, please share at levyl1@hotmail.com
