Canaan Heights mom ‘gifted’ Panama Christmas trip

-

When last have you seen a blue Jamaican passport? Chances are you don’t even remember t hat piece of travel document once had that colour.

Well, that was the only one that Renee Mamby had when she was recently notified of her impending surprised vacation in Panama.

Mamby, 28, a trained early childhood teacher from Canaan Heights, May Pen, the third lucky winner of an all-expense paid vacation for two in Digicel’s Get Gifted Christmas promotion.

“I had a passport before but it had expired,” she said laughing.

“I was laid back but winning t he prize I had t o make t he necessary arrangements. I had to rush to go and get it (renewed). I even did it express because I didn’t want it to be the case that if I got the call that the arrangements are made that it wouldn’t be ready,” Mamby said.

The mother of two, who will be spending f i ve f un and relaxing days in Panama was euphoric, sharing that she has never been overseas, nor has she ever won a prize in any competition before Digicel’s Get Gifted promotion.

Mamby said her passport had expired since 2010 and she had to get a new one at the Passport Immigration and Citizenship Agency which years ago replaced the blue passport with a new machine readable, burgundy passport.

“I was so embarrassed when I got there to see that I was the only person with the blue pass- port,” she joked.

With travel documents now in hand, Mamby said she intends to have loads of fun in Panama and has promised to document her experience through photographs.

“I have never thought about going there for a vacation, so I’m not sure what to expect. But I am delighted t hat I have been ‘gifted’ this opportunity, and I’m really grateful to be chosen by Digicel.”

The family-oriented Mamby told THE WEEKEND STAR that she considers her Get Gifted win a present, adding that it is the best present she has ever got for Christmas.

“I have never been away from Jamaica, and so that is why I consider this massive,” she said.

Mamby, a Digicel customer for over 12 years, will also receive US$1,000 spending money, a brand new Digicel DL 1 Plus smartphone, and J$5,000 credit.

Digicel’s Christmas promotion, which started on November 18, will see t hree more weekly winners of an all-expense-paid 5-day trip for two to Grenada, St Lucia, Turks and Caicos, St Maarten or Panama, in addition to US$1,000 spending money, a DL 1 Plus smartphone and J$5,000 credit.
