Hotel supervisor granted bail
Ahotel supervisor was spared spending his holidays in a jail cell after he was granted bail last week in the St James Parish Court in the sum of $400,000.00 with conditions.
Howard Grant is charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm following allegations that on December 20, he went to his babymother’s workplace and attacked her with a metal pipe, resulting in her hand being broken.
His attorney, Don Foote, tendered a successful bail application.
The court heard, after Foote’s submission, that the complainant was the aggressor and that Grant went to her workplace to give her money to support the child.
Foote told the court that upon Grant’s arrival, the complainant attacked him first with a knife, which he successfully took from her grasp and subsequently surrendered to the security person- nel at the premises.
The court also heard that the complainant armed herself with a metal pipe, which she further used to attack Grant.
According to the attorney, the complainant made several violent swings, which were eluded, causing her to fall, and both began to wrestle.
Foote told THE STAR that the charge is a “crying shame” as at no time did Grant attack the complainant.
Foote said Grant was of good character and has an unblemished record. As condition of his bail, the court ordered Grant to report three days weekly to the police.
He is also ordered not to communicate with the complainant. He is to return to court on February 1.
