I WANT TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL
Dear Pastor, I must commend you on the wonderful work you have been doing over the years. I am an avid listener to your programme, and love reading your column. Pastor, I have a challenge, and I really need some help. I am 29 years old and I am living in the country. I would really like to relocate to Kingston to live for a while so I can better myself.
Being here in the country all my life has not worked out for me, and jobs are basically next to none. I worked at place for almost a year, but since then, I have sent out résumés with no luck.
I have been doing a bit of voluntary work at my to occupy my time. I am qualified for jobs in Kingston, but the problem is that I don’t have anywhere to stay and I am not able to afford rent as yet. If I could get a place to stay for a while and sort myself out, I would be very grateful.
I am an ambitious person, who doesn’t attend parties, dances, and I do not wear lewd fashion. I am peaceful, quiet, neat and love to learn. I have a seven-year-old son who is currently liv- ing with his father. My babyfather and I parted ways some time now. He is a very good father, but we were not on the same page, so I moved on and I am now focusing on myself. I really want to put myself in a better position where I can help my son and also my mother, who sacrificed a lot for me.
HELP NEEDED
I really just need some help towards my dreams. At the moment, I am living with some friends, but I am not happy. The environment is negative. Being here, I feel held back from my dreams and being made to feel like I am aiming too high. I really want to leave where I am and start a better life.
I am a hard worker who values education. I believe I was born to teach, and help children and adults with learning challenges. As such, I would like to attend The Mico University College to pursue a bachelor’s degree in special education. I do believe that I can be an agent of change in my country.
I would be grateful if you would assist me in getting some help.
K.W. Dear K.W. I am always pleased to receive letters from ambitious young women. I am happy that you are willing to work hard to achieve your goals. Have you applied to The Mico University College? Do you have the necessary qualifications to become a student at The Mico? Sometimes people have dreams, but they do not move beyond the dreams. If you want to be a teacher, then you should have applied to be a student. Nothing will fall into your lap. I am sure you know that.
It is not necessary to be worried about a place to live if you have not made the first move. I would also remind you that one can apply for a student loan to attend The Mico University College. Jamaica is a wonderful country. People are very helpful, but things will not fall into your hands without
