Look to CAMPESINO

- JIMMIE STAR Writer

RELIABLE Robert Halledeen has the leg up aboard topweight CAMPESINO, who is virtually down in class for tomorrow’s 1100metre St Catherine Cup.

The Caribbean Sprint winner on Superstakes Day, beating none other than Gold Cup winner and stablemate BUZZ NIGHTMARE, CAMPESINO is the most difficult horse not to back on the sparse nine-race card.

Though he won the Grade One Caribbean Sprint, Philip Feanny’s CAMPESINO qualifies for open allowance, having not won at the level since last year May. Winning the Caribbean Sprint was regarded as him skipping class.

Facing six rivals, including TROPICALDEPRESSION, who has no place in an open allowance race, save ensuring the event doesn’t fall through, CAMPESINO should use his proven class to turn back super-fit SIR BUDGET.

Michael Beecham’s SIR BUDGET proved his Diamond Mile Day effort was no fluke, returning a week later to dismiss GARY GLITTER and speedy TALENTED TONY K at 1000 metres straight, clocking 59.0 after taking over splits of 22.3, 45.1

Though he’ll report 10lb lighter than CAMPESINO, SIR BUDGET lacks the seven-year-old’s class, which kept him rubbing shoulders with the best sprinters and middle-distance runners all of last season.

Competing in the December 10 Diamond Mile, CAMPESINO pressed BUZZ NIGHTMARE to the home turn in a six-furlong split of 1:10.4 before SEEKING MY DREAM hit overdrive and dismissed both.
