MY HUSBAND KNOWS EVERYBODY’S BUSINESS

-

Dear Pastor, I have been reading your column since a co-worker drew my attention to it. I am not a Jamaican, but I am married to a Jamaican, and we have three children. I am a Christian, but my husband is not. He likes to read your column, too.

My children and I go to church every Sunday. My husband goes on special Sundays like Easter, Christmas, and New Year’s Sunday, and if the children are doing anything special in church, he would attend to give them his support. He is very supportive. When we are in church, he is cooking dinner. He is a better cook than I am. His mother had five children, all boys, and she taught them to do everything for themselves. My husband can iron better than any woman.

I asked my husband if he would attend church every Sunday for three months, and he said he would consider doing so, but it would be difficult because there are too many hypocrites in the church. My husband knows everybody’s business in the church. I am amazed. He knows about the Sunday school teachers, the deacons, choir members and even the minister. He calls everybody hypocrite.

It was funny how he knows all of these things. I was amazed. I kept silent, and then he said, “You see why I can’t go to church as often as you? Too many hypocrites are in the church.”

I didn’t know how to answer my husband, so that is why I am writing to you. I couldn’t tell my husband that the hypocrites are not there. He knows them. Please, I am asking for an answer.

S.P.
