Artistes raise voices

The Caribbean Love Now Jamathon concert, which is set to ignite the National Indoor Sports Centre later tonight, is expected to be a show for the history books. Not only is the event in aid of relief efforts for Caribbean islands affected by hurricanes this year, but the show has a plethora of artistes booked for the one night; all giving of their services free of charge. “The reaction from the entertainers, when I asked, was a resounding yes,” chief organiser Joe Bogdanovich told THE STAR.

“They all wanted to support the cause and there was absolutely no resistance ... . This is a sign of unity in the music fraternity and it shows that when it comes to giving back to those in need, we all can come together and make things happen,” Bogdanovich added.

The concert is set to feature performances by nearly 30 of the best acts in classic reggae, dancehall and soca in a historic one-night-only music event. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Caribbean Love Now campaign, which supports rebuilding programmes in islands affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

Etana, one of the artistes booked for the event, said she was thrilled to be part of the event.

“I have some of my biggest fans in Guadeloupe, Martinique, Dominica, Antigua, St Martin, the US Virgin Islands, and other areas affected. It breaks my heart to see them struggle as much as they have through these hurricanes,” she said.

“When Christy Barber called about Joe’s idea to give back to the areas affected, I didn’t hesitate for one second. I love my fans and my Caribbean people. I have been blessed with the gift of music and I started out wanting to uplift and strengthen people of all ages with every song. This is another opportunity to do just that.”
