Two years for ‘Tappa’ ... Whitmore expected to sign JFF contract tomorrow

President of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Michael Ricketts said his association will be meeting with Reggae Boyz coach Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore tomorrow to iron out the details of his new contract. Ricketts told STAR Sports in an interview yesterday, that Whitmore, who has been the Reggae Boyz interim coach since last year, will be offered a two-year contract by the federation. “We have not yet signed a contract. We have a gentleman’s arrangement, but we are supposed to meet on Friday (tomorrow) to go through with the contract with him before he actually signs,” said Ricketts.

“Everything is basically in place as it relates to Whitmore, except that we have not yet presented the document to him, but we are going to look at it on Friday and then go through the document and then hopefully thereafter [he will sign],” he said.

QUITE SATISFIED

“I don’t think we are going to have a problem because we have had verbal discussions on it and he seems quite satisfied, so it is just for us to go through the details and then for him to put pen to paper,” Ricketts added.

He also shared that Whitmore’s contract is subject to renewal after it expires, based on his performance with the senior team.

“It is for two years because it has to be for the life of this present administration, so the year after, we will look at it again,” Ricketts pointed out. He also stated that Jerome Waite will continue to be Whitmore’s assistant.

Whitmore guided the Reggae Boyz to a second-place finish in the CONCACAF Gold Cup tournament in July, where they were edged 21by hosts United States in the final. He was given an interim role by the late former JFF president Captain Horace Burrell, last year.
