Mackison leads race for KFC Big Deal Golden Boot Award
Kingston College star striker Rashawn Mackison will be aiming to lock up the KFC Big Deal Golden Boot Award when he and his North Street squad tackle St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) in the final of the 2017 ISSA/FLOW Super Cup this Saturday at Sabina Park.
Mackison has scored three times so far in the competition, which leaves him and Calabar High School’s Collin Anderson tied at the top of the scoring charts this season.
The KFC Big Deal Golden Boot is awarded to the top scorer in the competition.
Jourdaine Fletcher, formerly of Cornwall College was the 2016 winner and finished last year’s Super Cup competition with seven goals, leading Cornwall College to the final, where they were beaten 1-0 by Wolmer’s Boys.
Fletcher was awarded a scholarship to the San Jacinto South Junior College in Texas. He recently scored his first goal for the team in a 5-1 win over Paris Junior College in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division 1 competition.
While in Jamaica, Fletcher plays Montego Bay United and has also represented Jamaica’s senior national team, the Reggae Boyz.
“Youth development is a very important part of our KFC mandate, and our sponsorship of events like the Flow Super Cup helps us provide platforms for student athletes to develop both on and off the field of play,” said Andrei Roper, brand manager at KFC Jamaica.
“Regardless of who wins this year’s Golden Boot Award, we have had a great Super Cup as a sponsor and a partner, and you can clearly see why it’s called the ‘Champions League’ of school boy football.”
