Rusea’s hunt 11th daCosta Cup title against unbeaten Clarendon College

The battle for the prestigious ISSA/FLOW daCosta Cup will go down this evening at 6 p.m. between 10-times champions Rusea’s High School and this season’s Ben Francis champions, Clarendon College (CC), at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.

Vassell Reynolds, coach of Rusea’s – regarded as the dark-horse of this season – said that it would be very significant for them to finish the game as champions as it would see them maintaining their conversion rate of 10 titles in just 14 finals.

Coach Reynolds believes that the tough competition from the first round has prepared them to peak at the right time. However, he admits that CC is a high-quality team and believes that if they can put in a performance like they did against STETHS, or even better, they will be successful.

“We recognise that nothing less than the best performance of the season will get us over the line because we can’t hide from the fact that we are up against a powerful attacking CC team, however, we are confident in our abilities, plans, and preparations for this game,” said Reynolds.

The players to watch for the Russians are the trio of Nazine Matalie, Leonardo Fogarty, and Daniel Reid.

Clarendon College will be putting their 100 per cent rural area win record on the line against one of the best schoolboy coaches in the island, but coach Byjeon Thomas, who said that they are focused on the game, pointed out that they just have to work to their strengths as Reynolds is a tactical guru.

“We are fully focused on the game. I know it’s not going to be easy as we are up against a very good team, but we are going to do our best, pouring everything out on the field, and give ourselves a chance,” said Thomas.

“I don’t think you can truly prepare beforehand for a Vassell Reynolds team as he is not one who plays the same way twice, so we will be coming out with a lot of heart, playing our quick passing game,” he added.

The players to watch for Clarendon College are captain Ricardo McIntosh, Nicque Daley, Demar Phillips, Shande James, and Lamar Walker.
