Ramone Taylor eyes national call-up

-

Ramone Taylor, who is the captain of the Anchovy High School senior netball team is setting her sights on becoming a senior Sunshine Girl.

Taylor, an Under-21 invitee, was at her dazzling best recently, leading Anchovy High School to the semifinal round of the ISSA rural area netball competition. Anchovy is the only team from western Jamaica to secure a top four place in the competition.

Now a sixth-form student, Taylor has been awarded a full scholarship to the University of the West Indies. She is expected to start attending the institution next year.

FULFIL HER DREAMS

Speaking with the WESTERN STAR, Taylor said that given her current level of fitness and her belief in hard work, she has what it takes to get into the national set-up, and fulfil her dreams of becoming a standout player in the national colours.

“My experience in the national set-up has taught me to continue working hard and shape me into a strong leader for my team, so I am hoping for another call-up,” said Taylor, who also plays club netball with Angels United in the St James domestic netball league.

Sharon Woodstock, the coach of Anchovy team, told the WESTERN STAR that her aim is to get Taylor back into the national programme. She believes that following her impressive showing in the ISSA rural area netball competition, it is almost a given that she will earn a call-up.

“I am sure that scouts are out looking at her and will recommend that she be called up,” said Woodstock.

In Anchovy’s semi-final clash against defending champions Denbigh High School, which they lost 45-32, Taylor scored 15 goals from 16 attempts in the first three quarters. She then played the final quarter as a goalkeeper as Woodstock sought to contain the free-scoring Denbigh team.
