DAYS TO CHRISTMAS

-

Iwonder if unnu realise say another new year soon forward again! Yes peeps, in twelve days’ time it will be Christmas, then less than a week after, we’ll see the demise of December, and just like that, braps; another year will be over. Of course, the year will not simply fade away with calm quietness or die slowly. On the contrary, the next couple of days will be extra loud, colourful, and fast-paced as usual. Chaos will now descend on the streets of every town, and both pedestrian and vehicular traffic will dramatically increase as people scamper around in a frenzied haste to excitedly indulge in the crazy cacophony of commercialisation that Christmas has become.

CLOSET SCROOGE

Listen nuh man, maybe I’m just a closet scrooge. But each year, as this yuletide season approaches, I find myself entertaining a wish to run off to a faraway, secluded space and chill out in quiet solitude until the noise and excitement done! Truth be told though, that idea never lasts too long, because it’s almost impossible to fight off the urge to get into the festive spirit. Yeah man, although I will try and convince myself that I’m not really into the Christmas thing, before too long, I’ll be consuming fruit cake, singing cheesy carols, and sipping sorrel too. How about you?

Still, I want to encourage myself, and you as well, to resist the temptation to get so caught up in the material, commercial, and carnival nature of the vibes, that we forget the reason behind the season. And that reason, simply, is love. It’s gift-wrapped neatly in the often repeated John 3:16 “For God so loved the world...”

So family, yu waan mek Christmas truly meaningful? Give back some love. In fact, try and be love.

Yeah, join me in this aspirational declaration based on the descriptions of love in 1 Corinthians chapter 13 verses 4 to 8. “I will be patient, I will be kind. I will not envy, I will not boast, I will not dwell in vain pride. I will not dishonour others, I will not be self-seeking, and I will not be easily angered. I will keep no record of wrongs. I will not delight in evil but rejoice with the truth. I will always protect, always trust, always hope and always persevere. And I will never fail.”

Let’s make that our Christmas and new year resolution!
