Danielle D.I. dedicates song to mothers

Female deejay Danielle D.I. is hoping to start the new year on a positive note with a new song dedicated to mothers. The track, ‘So Blessed’ (Mama), was inspired by the entertainer’s own mother who was hospitalised earlier this year.

In an interview with THE STAR, Danielle D.I. explained that her mother’s illness put things into perspective for her. She noted that rather than feeding into negativity going into 2018, she will be keeping her sights set on the things and people that really matter.

“The track was inspired by my mother. When I saw her in the hospital and I felt as though I could lose her at any moment, my mind started to go over all the things we have been through over the years,” she said. “I was a rebel from my teens, and she would always still believe in me and stand by my side and was there to help me pick up the pieces when things went bad.”

Although the song is personal, the entertainer said that it is also a song for everyone who respects his or her mother and understands the sacrifices they have made for their children.

“Being a mother is a major role, and I have to do my part in highlighting how strong they are regardless of the challenges they face,” she said. “The song is dedicated to all mothers because their struggle on a daily basis is real.”

VIDEO RELEASED

The video for the song was released on Monday and is available for viewing on the entertainer’s Vevo channel. It was directed by Damaniac Green. “The video shows the younger me as a stubborn teen having a boyfriend, getting tattoo and skipping school. I gave a lot of trouble, not listening to mommy’s advice and then at the end of the day, when all is said and done, mommy is right about a lot of things,” she said, explaining the concept of the video. “The feedback is that the song is emotional, relatable and mature. People are dedicating it to their moms and want to download or purchase (it) to send to their mothers. It clearly indicates that it will be a Mother’s Day favourite in 2018.” Danielle D.I. was involved in a squabble with fellow female deejay Ishawna earlier this year. The spat dominated the local media for a few weeks after it transformed from a lyrical exchange of words to a nasty quarrel, which saw the mothers of both entertainers being dragged into the fracas.
