‘Teddy’ to undergo surgery
Reggae Boy and Tivoli Gardens striker, Jermaine ‘Teddy’ Johnson is set to have an operation done on his right knee before resuming playing football early next March.
Johnson has been sidelined by the injury sustained in his team’s 10 win against Harbour View in the Premier League’s first round on October 16.
“I visited the doctor last Saturday and he told me that it would require an operation. He would have to clean it out,” the 37-year-old told STAR Sports.
“It would be either a month or six weeks after the operation, that I would be ready to play again. It is now up to Tivoli, so if it is not this week, it would be next week. I think the operation will be done next week. Hopefully, I should be back late February,” he shared.
“I was trying to make a reverse pass to a teammate in the game against Harbour View when I felt it. I tried but it just never was working,” recounted Johnson, who is eager to get back in the game.
GIVING GUIDANCE
“It is a bit difficult to be watching and not playing, not there to help my team on the pitch. I have to be giving guidance off the field,” said Johnson, who won the MVP and Golden Boot awards last season.
“I think the team is doing good but they need a leader out there. They need to stay focused,” he said of Tivoli, who are fourth in the league on 23 points from 14 games.
Johnson started his senior career at Tivoli Gardens then transferred to Bolton Wanderers, Oldham Athletic, Bradford City, and Sheffield Wednesday, from 2001 to 2014. He also spent one season at Indy Eleven before returning home in 2015.
