Ocho Rios Market needs repair

- AKINO MING STAR Writer

Vendors at the Ocho Rios Market in St Ann have become restive over the poor condition of the facility, saying that none of the bathrooms are functioning.

A vendor said that there is also excessive leaking at the facility.

“A lot of people getting wet here and the municipal corporation not doing anything about it,” the vendor said. “We can’t be selling food and don’t have bathroom or running water.”

However, acting CEO of the St Ann Municipal Corporation, Rovel Morris, told THE WEEKEND STAR that he, Mayor Michael Belnavis, and other stakeholders are scheduled to have a meeting about improving the conditions of the facility soon.

“There are some works that are supposed to be done at the market. As a matter of fact, as we speak, myself and the mayor and other representatives from other agencies should have been visiting the market. I don’t know if the weather will permit, because it is raining now,” Morris said.

He said they should be looking at the bathrooms to assess what needs to be done to get them in workable conditions again for the Christmas season.

“We are looking to extend the opening hours of the market to about 10 p.m. for the Christmas season, so we are putting in lights and making sure that the bathrooms are in workable condition,” Morris said.
