Sandals performance gives Lawrence hope

Aaron ‘Wild Boy’ Lawrence, coach of promoted Sandals South Coast FC said he is pleased with the level of football they have been playing since the second round of the Red Stripe Premier League and is looking to use the upcoming January transfer window to make a surge for a play-off spot.

“I’m happy that the team has been playing much better, scoring some of the goals we were missing in the first round,” said Lawrence.

Lawrence believes that if his side had shown the belief they have since the second round, they would be well up the ladder as their performances against league leaders Portmore United and Arnett Gardens (though they did not win), was top of the table quality.

“The first round, I think we were still a bit nervous about the whole Premier League, however, since the start of the second round, the players have shown some belief and we are fighting to be part of the league come next season,” said Lawrence.

Lawrence, whose aim was to not lose any game in this second round, is focused on closing the year with three points at home against Humble Lion next Thursday.

Sandals currently sit in 11th place in the 12 team table on 12 points, which put them 10 points outside play-offs spot. However, Lawrence noted that making it into the play-offs is not far-fetched. He said that he is looking forward to the January transfer window to get some players in and make a move to a play-off spot.

“We have been talking to some players that we think can help us to sustain a good position and even give a push toward the playoffs spot,” said Lawrence.

The former U-15 national coach said he will be looking to bring in some of the better players from the just concluded schoolboy football season, as he thinks the way for Jamaica to go forward is to give young players as much exposure as possible.
