Cops seize firearm at party

One firearm and several rounds of ammunition were seized by a team of officers in the Bamboo Ridge community of St Catherine yesterday.

One man was arrested and charged for the offences of illegal possession of firearm, illegal possession of ammunition, and escaping police custody.

Charged is 50-year-old Leroy Fennel, otherwise called ‘Daddy Ran’, salesman of Mount Industry in St Catherine.

Reports from the Glengoffe police are that at about 4 a.m., a party was in session in the area when Fennel allegedly brandished a firearm and fired two gunshots.

Lawmen responded and the suspect was accosted and searched. One Glock 17 pistol with a magazine containing 12 9mm rounds of ammunition was found in his possession.

Fennel was transporte­d to the station, and while he was being processed by the lawmen, he reportedly assaulted an officer and escaped. However, he was recaptured by the police.

He is scheduled to appear before the Linstead Parish Court on Wednesday, January 10, to answer to the charges laid against him.

On Sunday, police teams in the Corporate Area were also kept busy.

One .357 Magnum revolver containing four .357 cartridges and one .38 cartridges was seized and one man arrested and charged on Glen Drive, St Andrew.

AROSE THEIR SUSPICIONS

Charged with illegal possession of firearm and illegal possession of ammunition is 32-year-old Howard Sinclair, mechanic of Glen Drive, Cassava Piece.

Reports from the Hunts Bay Police are that about 10 p.m., the Operations Support Team was on foot patrol in the area when a man was seen acting in a manner that arose their suspicions.

He was accosted, searched, and the firearm found in the waistband of his trousers. He was subsequent­ly arrested and charged.

The court date will be announced at a later date.

Meanwhile, nine shotgun cartridges were seized by lawmen assigned to the Kingston Western Division during an operation on Spanish Town Road.

One male has been taken into custody in relation to the seizure.

Reports are that at about 3:30 p.m., officers were on patrol in the area when two adjoining premises were searched. Nine shotgun cartridges that were found on the premises in boxes were seized.

The identity of the person taken into custody has been withheld pending further investigat­ions.
