Changes coming for MoBay United – Powell

-

Roderick Underwood, coach of Red Stripe Premier League club Montego Bay United (MBU), could be on his way out of the club after a sluggish start to the season and not being with the club over the past few weeks.

Under his guidance, the former champions have only managed five wins in their 18 games so far this season, and eight overall in over 30 matches since his appointment in February 2017.

When asked on the future of the US-based coach, and the direction of the club, President Orville Powell said they will come to a decision by tomorrow as to what changes can be made for the second half of the season to turn their poor season around.

“The club will be making some changes and decisions this week, as soon as everything settles after the holidays. So we will know exactly what we’re doing by Wednesday,” Powell said on Sunday.

MBU sits eighth in the 12-team standings, three points outside the play-off spots, and just five points from the relegation zone.

The team has scored 15 goals and conceded 24. Only cellar-dwellers Boys’ Town FC and Sandals South Coast FC have done worse.

Powell, who describes their performance this season as being very poor, told STAR Sports the club is looking to strengthen all areas during this transfer window.

“We are targeting some players that we want to have, and we are going to make a decision on that as well Wednesday,” said the outspoken Powell. “I was away for a while and took a boxing for a while now, but all of that’s going to change to put back the club on top. The fans and everyone are getting frustrated, so we have to make the move now.”
