Cavalier youngsters attract overseas clubs
Cavalier’s technical director, Rudolph Speid, told STAR Sports that several overseasbased clubs are courting a number of his young players for a January transfer move.
However, the Cavalier boss was quick to point out that none of those transfer were certain, noting that he is yet to receive a suitable offer for any of his charges.
“I don’t know if they are leaving yet. We have a lot of players on our team that people (other clubs) are interesting in. Chevonne (Marsh), (Jamoi) Topey, Alex Marshall and (Kaheem) Parris, but we don’t know who is leaving,” he said.
“I have received (an) offer for Topey and for Alex (Marshall), but I am not sure I want those offers, but we are discussing it,” Speid said, while adding that scouts also watched the players on Sunday against Montego Bay United in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL).
However, Speid underlined that if he is to receive a satisfactory offer for any players in January, he is confident it will not affect their RSPL ambitions.
“It could be we will miss them, but it is not that we cannot do without those players, because we have a rich pool of talented youngster,” said Speid. “So if I lose one, it’s not that great. I have an abundance of riches; if I lose couple players, I don’t think it will stop my progress. We are well stocked.”
“We believe we will stay in the top six and once we stay in a play-off spot, we will try to win the title. We have just passed the halfway stage, so we can’t be complacent,’ he said.
PLEASED WITH TRANSISITION
Cavalier have steadily climbed the standing, moving from a relegationthreatened position to currently sit in fourth place on 27 points, 13 points behind leaders Portmore United (40 points). Speid has been especially pleased with the transition of his young talent into the league.
“The transfer window is open and if there is a talent we must have, we will go for it. But we mainly go for our talented young players, as they have taken to the Premier League games like duck to water,” he said.
“But I am encouraged by the recent results and the transition of the young players. It is really a policy that we want to have – get the players through our youth programme, work on them for two to three years and let them go. That is really our policy,” he added.
