Curvy Diva takes on Marley remake

-

Yanique ‘Curvy Diva’ Barrett launched her musical career last year with the single, ‘Lifestyle’.

The move by the media personality into the realm of recording artiste has proved moderately successful.

The artiste ended a potentially promising freshman year in music with performances in Africa.

The trip to the continent saw the artiste perform at two events, Reggae Afrobeat Jamrock in Abuja and Wiz On The Beach in Lagos, both in Nigeria.

Beyond performing, the word from Curvy Diva’s camp is that she connected with noted Nigerian producers Jimmy Jatt and Chopsticks, and hung out with big-name performers Skales, Mr Eazi and Tiwa Savage.

“Meeting these fantastic artistes and just vybing to a few new beats from some heavyweight producers made the trip even more memorable,” she said. “It’s a great feeling to also hear my songs playing on Nigerian radio stations and see persons sending clips from top Nigerian TV platforms of my Lifestyle video rotating.”

However, before she takes on the Afrobeats challenge, there are some locally produced songs in the pipeline.

In addition to a collaboration with I-Octane, to be released this month, Curvy Diva will also be releasing a Bob Marley remake.

“Look forward to...the Turn Your Lights Down Low collaboration with Ky-Mani Marley; will have the steamy video shot in a matter of weeks,” she said.

Turn Your Lights Down Low was released on Bob Marley and the Wailers’ Exodus (1977) album as the only song on Side B, and was never released as a single.

In 1999, the song was remastered and re-released, featuring Lauryn Hill. That version was nominated for a Grammy.

For now, the media personality and deejay is preparing for her next performance. Next month will see her in the Turks and Caicos for their ATI event, followed by her debut on the YVA stage as a performer on February 24.
