Blood continues to flow in MoBay
Two people were killed and another injured in separate incidents across St James amid calls to crack down on violent crimes in the parish. Dead are 43-year-old David O’Connor and 58year-old Donald Tulloch, a business operator of Pimento Drive in Montego Hills. Another man is in hospital nursing gunshot wounds.
Reports from the Montego Bay Criminal Investigation Branch are that at about 1:50 a.m. yesterday, O’Connor and the injured man were standing on Lawrence Lane when they were approached by three men armed with guns.
Western STAR understands that the gunmen opened fire, hitting O’Connor and the man before making good their escape on foot.
Both men were taken to hospital, where O’Connor was pronounced dead, while the other man was admitted in stable condition.
Yesterday’s murder follows on the heels of Saturday’s shooting incident where Tulloch was shot and killed by unknown assailants at his business place.
It is understood that at about 3 p.m., the business operator was among a group of people at his welding shop when armed men busted in and began to rob persons of their possessions.
Before leaving, however, the gunmen reportedly opened fire on Tulloch, who died on the spot.
Montego Bay Criminal Investigation Branch is now trying to find the men behind both attacks as St James has already recorded more than four murders since the start of the year.
St James last year recorded 335 murders, a 24.5 per cent increase compared to 2016 when 269 people were killed.
Richard Vernon, councillor for Montego Bay South, told the Western STAR that Montego Bay needs more smart undercover operations from the police and CCTV cameras, as well community surveillance, as a start to curbing crime and violence in the Second City and greater St James.
