ONE EXPENSIVE SCANDAL BAG
Jamaicans are known to ‘tun dem hand and mek fashion’, and that’s exactly what Lionel Phillips did on night two of Rebel Salute inside Grizzly’s Plantation when the heavens opened up and gifted him the opportunity to make an extra dollar.
On a night when patrons had no other choice but to turn to alternatives, Phillips decided to sell scandal bags to offer them coverage on their feet.
Scandal bags, which would normally cost $10 per bag, were being sold for $100 per pair. The unusually high cost did not matter to patrons who would do just about anything to avoid getting mud on their shoes and feet.
HOT SELLER
Phillips, who was at the venue selling beverages, quickly diverted his attention to the new venture, as scandals became the hot sellers of the night.
“I’m selling scandal bag footwear,” he told THE STAR. “It’s a $100 for two, but for you ladies it’s $50. I sell a whole lot. I wasn’t selling last night, but I feel it is important because the ladies are in slippers.”
THE STAR observed many patrons forking out their $100 to purchase their scandal bags, and inside the venue several men and women were seen sporting the scandal bag footwear.
Samantha and Toni Ann were two of the patrons sporting scandal bags. They told THE STAR that they had to buy the bags because the mud was just too unbearable. They explained that having arrived to a saturated venue, they were happy to see vendors like Lionel, calling them saving graces. And even though items were a little pricey, they didn’t mind as their shoes and feet were being protected.
