Studio Vibes

-

hit songs were mere ideas before “magic was sprinkled on them” during studio sessions.

WORK MODE

“Every studio have a vibe. Once you go in the studio, you know you’re in work mode. Sometimes I go to the studio and I only have half of a song. Sometimes I don’t even have a song at all, but when I get there, the rhythm, the vibe and the energy ignite me,” she expressed.

“The studio just gets you into that creative mode, and you get to vibe off the energy of the other creative people around you. You have a thing a di studio too where everybody hold a vibe before you even start record, so we a talk bout dis and dat, and you just get an idea again outta di reasoning.”

Lisa Hyper was no different, referring to the studio as a lab.

“In and out of the lab you are creative, but you get a better vibe writing the song while you’re in the studio. The other day I was talking about this same thing too. I will write a song at home and then go to the studio and voice, and then sometimes I go in the studio, hold a vibe, and build the song there, and I realise the song you build when you go in the studio is often a better song because you get a better vibe,” she said.

“When you’re in the studio, you’re not so relaxed as when you’re at home. When you’re in the studio, and you’re hearing the instrumental from the speakers, hearing the producer, you know you’re in the lab and it’s work time.”

Highlighting that the studio can make or break an artiste, Esco encouraged artistes to treat the studio like any other place of employment. He explained that as artistes or aspiring artistes, individuals should want to learn everything about the studio and improve on their craft with the wealth of knowledge they obtain in the studio.

“The studio can make or break you, but it can also train you. Just like any other place of employment, you haffi spend time in it. Adapt, grow, learn how to use it — learn the perks and the tricks of the trade,” he said.
