Cavalier boosted by vocal female supporters
Cavalier’s young guns have been shining in the Red Stripe Premier League on the field, however, part of the reason has been the vocal support from a group of female fans. Led by Camille Irving, who is the mother of star forward Alex Marshall, they can be seen at games whether at Cavalier’s Stadium East home ground, or the opponents’ ground.
“I started supporting my son from his days at Ascot Primary and also with Cavalier as a youth player. The guys listen to my voice and it motivates them a lot,” Irving told STAR Sports recently.
She praised Cavalier’s technical director Rudolph Speid for giving players as young as 17 years old opportunities after playing in the Manning and daCosta Cup schoolboy competitions last year.
OPPORTUNITY TO PLAY
“It is a great move that Mr Speid has brought in some very young players because when my son was at that age, he did not get the opportunity to play in the Premier League,” she pointed out.
“Our crew is made up of my mom, sister, and close friends of Alex,” she added about the band of supporters.
Another loyal supporter, Latiesha Brizett, is a former player. She was attracted to Cavalier while watching Marshall making a mark in schoolboy football at St George’s College.
“I used to play football for Kingston High school and New Kingston. My support for Alex Marshall led to me being a fan of Cavalier. I watched him playing for St George’s, then got attracted to Cavalier,” Brizett said.
“I met Alex’s mother from George’s days and we became friends. Honestly, if you were a referee, you would know that you were doing something wrong, as I would say it. We make a lot of noise for them, which inspire them to do better,” she added.
